After Channel Two’s well-received debut album Artful Time Reduction in 2007 – an LP that received major foreign press, airplay on Gilles Peterson’s worldwide BBC radio show, numerous placements on compilations, film & television (Chris Rock’s I Think I Love My Wife / Fox Searchlight Films) and kudos through many international playlists (Quantic / Paris Djs / Philly’s Record Breakin’) – the ‘Two’ are back in ‘12 with their latest LP, Beyond 2012. This LP starts with the strong hip-hop track “Revolution” feat. Nfa, who opens up his lyrical-daggering prowess, immediately introducing us directly into the cosmic pulse of Channel Two’s music.

‘We decided to let this album evolve into the organic collection of songs that comprise of Beyond 2012,’ says Terence Yoshiaki, half of Channel Two.’ By taking the time to let things develop naturally, we were able to create a fresh and unique approach to this blend of songs, and are excited to share this album’. The two multi-tasking musicminds collaborated and created the entire album via the Internet, this time around – exchanging ideas, inspirations and sharing data files – all over the web. After three years of back n’ forth productions, Channel Two are ready to present their work and continue the musical journey through the combination of Euro-Soul and Nu Soul that describes this LP.

The introductory single (released in 2011) ‘Spanish Nights’ features Australian artist Nfa, and was featured in the 20th Century Fox film, Our Family Wedding starring Forest Whitaker. ‘Working with Nfa was one of those natural fits for us,’ said Andreas Bingel, Channel Two’s other half. ‘We are glad that he is taking part in the project and his voice set a sound for the records. It is giving the record a personal sound.’ Though Nfa does command an audio presence throughout the new LP, Channel Two also brought forth a palette of other incredible vocal talent via Ming Xia (The Spooks), Black Shakespeare (The Lions) and OEC (The Dreamkatchers). The Afro-broken beat track ‘Hope,’ filled w/live horn arrangements and energetic percussion that brings an undeniable energy, features London artist Breis alongside the vocal styling of Los Angeles’ own Joy Jones. This rhythmic jumper has already started to influence dance floors, making its powerful presence felt.

Andreas Bingel (Ich-Zwerg / Aaron Bingle / Deja-Move) and Terence Yoshiaki (Transcenders / B.E.P.) are the production team behind Channel Two. Hip Hop & Soul blended with Nu Soul & Nu Jazz, fused with Reggae & Dub, and all within a dance/pop sensibility define the Channel Two-sound. Always covering a wide range of styles, you will continue to find a hip-hop track next to a reggae tune, next to an afro- brokenbeat joint, rounded off with a pop influenced title. From jazzy re-interpretations such as ‘Jazz Move 2′ to the soulful, downtempo/hip-hop ballad ‘Got Me Open’, Channel Two create a lasting impression on the listener, especially with other standout tracks ‘Lovely’, ‘If You Love Me’ and the album title track. From the modern, up-tempo swinging ‘Grease Patty’ and the deep dub-reggae influenced cut, ‘Meant To Be’ – Beyond 2012 does not disappoint. Nach Channel Two’s Debut Album ‘Artful Time Reduction’, das im Jahr 2007 veröffentlicht wurde und internationalen Anklang fand (Besprechungen in der Musikpresse, Airplay bei Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide BBC Radioshow, viele Platzierungen auf Compilations, in Film und TV (Chris Rock’s I Think I Love My Wife / Fox Searchlight)) und auch ansehen durch internationale Einsätze auf Playlists anerkannter DJs fand (Quantic / Paris Djs / Philly’s Record Breakin’), sind die beiden nun im Jahr 2012 mit Ihrem neuen Album Beyond 2012 zurück. Die LP started mit einem starken Hip Hop Titel - ”Revolution” feat. Nfa, der einen durch seine energetischen Raps sofort in den Bann zieht und den musikalsichen Kosmos von Channel Two eröffnet.

‘Wir haben uns entschieden dieses Album organisch wachsen zu lassen, so dass es zu dem wurde was Beyond 2012 ist’, sagt Terence Yoshiaki, die eine Hälfte von Channel Two. ‘Dadurch, dass wir uns die Zeit genommen haben die Dinge natürlich wachsen zu lassen, waren wir in der Lage den Songs einen eigenständigen und frischen Anspruch zu verpassen. Nun sind wir gespannt darauf der Welt das Album vorzustellen.’ Die beiden vielseitig beschäftigten kreativen Köpfe kollaborierten über das Internet und kreierten das ganze Album über ihren Internet Austausch. Sie schickten sich Ideen zu, Ansätze und Inspirationen und teilten das Ganze über gemeinsame Datenbänke, alles wurde über das Web abgewickelt. Nach 3 Jahren des Hin- und Her-produzierens sind Channel Two nun soweit ihre Arbeit zu präsentieren und damit ihre musikalische Reise fortzusetzen – die Kombination zwischen Euro-Soul und Nu Soul, die in etwa den Sound der Platte beschreibt.

Ihre Single ‘Spanish Nights’, die in 2011 veröffentlicht wurde und das Album einläuterte, hatte den Australischen Künstler Nfa als Raper zu Gast und wurde in dem Film ‘Our Family Wedding / 20th Century Fox’, in dem der berühmte US-amerikanischen Schauspieler Forest Whitaker mitwirkt, im Abspann eingesetzt. ‘Mit N’FA zusammen zu arbeiten war eine dieser ganz natürlichen Entwicklungen für uns’, sagt Andreas Bingel, Channel Two’s andere Hälfte. ‘Wir freuen uns darüber dass er an unserem Projekt teilnimmt, seine Stimme hat unserer Platte einen einheitlichen Sound gegeben’. Neben N’FA haben natürlich auch noch weitere Vokalisten auf dem Album mitgewirkt. Das bemerkenswerte Stimmtalent Ming Xia (The Spooks), Black Shakespeare (The Lions) und OEC (The Dreamkatchers) sind zu Gast auf dem Album zu hören. Der Afro Broken Beat Titel ‘Hope’, der mit live eingespielten Bläsersätzen und einer energetischen Perkussion aufwartet, hat einfach eine fangende Magie. ‘Gefeatured’ wurde hier der in London lebende Künstler ‘Breis’ und die in Los Angeles lebenden Künstlerin und Performerin Joy Jones. Dieses Rhythmische ‘Bündel’ hat auch schon den Dancefloor erreicht und genau dort kommt eben die Wirkung des Titels erst zur vollen Geltung.

Gerade mit den hervorstechenden Titeln ‘Lovely’, ‘If You Love Me’ und dem Album Titel Beyond 2012 geling Ihnen das.
